"e;Major Online Wii Title"e; Rumoured to Ditch Friendcodes

Wii Friend Codes suck, period. We know that, developers know that, apparently Nintendo doesn't know that. In IGN's latest podcast an intriguing rumour has emerged that a "major online title" for the Wii to be released in 2009 will do away with Friend Codes. If it's true it means that the developer has found a way to bypass Nintendo's 'stranger danger' online approach.

Speculation as to what game they were referring to immediately jumped to The Conduit, although it has since been confirmed that High Voltage Software's anticipated game will infact use the Friend Code system.

That leaves the question, what game will leap-frog Nintendo's below par Friend Code system? Will Nintendo allow it, and if they do could this become the norm for future Wii online titles?

exactly a point i was getting at in my paragraphs of points below ↓↓.

Offline when playing with friends/family in multiplayer, the room is rather energeticly loudish from the fun that everybody is having. You all are not seated down next to eachother playing in silence, you are having fun laughing, speaking etc etc.

On wi-fi however, online seems dull, cheesy, lifeless and just damn boring because online feels as if you're playing one player with cpu's, or boring toungless individuals.

... i just hope Nintendo starts making the wii a fun console and stop dragging as much fun as possible out of it.

Also remember Medal of Honer on the Wii didn't use friend codes either so it's not like it's impossible

i know it's just a rumour but firstly, i'm intrigued on what game it is (although i thought the conduit. is the conduit keeping FC's? if so, is it gonna be working around the FC system in a different kind of way?).
Secondly, i sure do hope games with wii-fi that releases after this title will also ditch FC's to the highest extent as possible (preferrably, totally).

....And finally, i hope the game's awesome!!!!!!

So after you add these two people, they're your only friends and to get more you need to resort to sites like this one to get more friends (which i don't do).

When you play online on wii it feels like you're playing offline, because you can't at least see a list of players who you've played, you can't view your opponents details/rep so you can track them or join their game (let alone communicate with them), you can't do anything to make it feel like you're playing and having fun with other individuals.

i mean say you're having a good game with a dude on MK, he leaves room.... then that's it!
As some guy said before, to an extent, i don't mind FC's (if it was more like a gamer-tag) but don't make our friends our online gaming (which that isn't even done the best)

can't even say everything but you guys know what i'm trying to say?...... r-right?

That's cool and true. As an owner of both a Wii and 360 I can totally agree that the 360 pwns the Wii in terms of online play.

There have been some significant improvements with CoD:WaW, Mario Kart Wii, SSBB (to a lesser extent) and even a number of WiiWare titles but simply put; Wii just isn't in the same league as the 360 for online gaming.

That said, this news may be a good sign that Ninty are listening and willing to relax their stance on the matter and evolve their online strategy.

It's helps with forums like myWii to get friendcodes, but otherwise I wouldn't know enough people with the same games...
