E3 2009: Iwata Reveals the Wii Vitality Sensor

Satoru Iwata took to the stage and gave an extremely long, seemingly unnecessary speech, about Nintendo attempting to increase its audience. After this went nowhere, he finally got to a point (I'm not sure if it's 'the point') by announcing the Wii Vitality Sensor.

The Wii Vitality Sensor is a device the plugs into the bottom of your Wii Remote and receives information about your heart rate by being attached to your finger. We're not entirely sure how this will be used in games, or how exactly this is related to Nintendo getting people who said they 'might be interesting in gaming' playing.

Cammie mentioned that it was a "look into the future"; however, once again nobody (including Reggie I suspect) knows what this means. The first thought that comes to mind is that it'll be used with Wii Fit Plus. But that seems too obvious.

I'm thinking they're thinking horror games could use it. If your heart rate's not up, the game needs to up the ante and have more scary stuff, but if your heart's going crazy, it tries to tone down the scare factor.
Could be really cool, if it's done right.

yeah i was thinking something along the lines of this too. Kind of sucks though that you wouldn't be able to have the nunchuk controller plugged in at the same time (as well not being able to hold it cos of that freaking huge thing attached to your finger).

IMO, this is gonna fail.
