Nintendo opened its E3 2009 Keynote with a bombshell, by announcing New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii. The game will take the series back to its 2D side-scrolling roots, and introduce 4 player multiplayer to the classic gameplay.
The multiplayer is a key selling point of the title, and was demonstrated on stage with reps playing as Mario, Luigi and two Toads. Players will be able to drop-in and out, meaning that you can call on friends to come and help out mid-level. The game will feature all the old Super Mario traits, such as the warp-pipes and hidden areas, as well as new features including the Propeller suit, which sees Mario take to the sky.
Nintendo revealed that the game will be available worldwide later this year. It will be on the floor this week at E3, so expect to see a lot more of it over the coming days!
