Resident Evil 5 Wii Port Now Possible

Earlier this year, when Resident Evil 5 was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, Capcom announced that a Wii version was not possible due to hardware constraints.

After the success of the Resident Evil 4 port naturally Wii gamers were a little disappointed to hear they'd be going back to on-rails shooters and miss out on the next instalment in the main series. However, after the completion of Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles Capcom's idea of what the Wii can and cannot do has changed. They now believe that a Wii port of Resident Evil 5 could be done.

"At Resident Evil 5’s launch it was announced that a Wii version was not technically possible," Darkside Chronicles Product Manager, Matt Dahlgren, told Nintendo Dpad. "But after some of the work that Cavia has done (with RE: Darkside Chronicles), the producers of Resident Evil 5 over in Japan now think it is possible. Some of the light effects in the South America stage are pretty incredible. Whether it is going to come, I don’t know the answer to that question. But, it has been said that now at least it is possible."

But, being able to do something and actually doing it are too very different things. Perhaps the success of the Wii version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, two years after the game's release on other platforms, will determine whether it's worth porting older games to the Wii.
