Nintendo: Strong games have strong sales
Mature gaming on the Wii has been a hot topic lately, with the announcements and cancellations of numerous titles aimed at both mature and core gamers. Nintendo wasted no time jumping in on the bandwagon, with vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway revealing that mature titles are indeed a growing thing.
Taking into account the quality of these games in a recent interview, Dunaway stated:
“We believe that the pipeline for games for experienced gamers is getting to be very robust and will continue to be so. I think strong games will have strong sales, and one of the things too is that these games can have really long tails. That it’s not just a matter of looking at the first month of sales.”
She also took care to mention the assistance that Nintendo is trying to offer third-party developers so that the target audience can be reached and sales-goals met:
“Nintendo is working with third parties to help them understand that it’s all about taking advantage of the unique interface and our hardware. I think as people are getting more comfortable with our technology, they are creating better and better games.”
Assuming that the words of Dunaway really inspire even more developers to create more mature titles, this is good news for a large portion of the Wii gaming crowd - a game library which at one stage may have consisted of one or two games may expand to numbers in excess of double digits.
Something that should also be taken note of is some of the AAA core titles in development, which include Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, No More Heroes 2, Red Steel 2 among numerous other titles which have been revealed at E3, GamesCom, and the Tokyo Game Show.
