Reggie: We're not ignoring core gamers
Reggie Fils-Aime, both president and CEO of Nintendo America, has spoken out about the apparent 'issue' of Nintendo's lack of appeal to core gamers.
While the Wii has indeed been about attracting new gamers to the market, Reggie is right to be annoyed at critics who say Nintendo are ignoring long-time fans, citing Zelda and Mario as key examples of big core titles.
“…But I think it’s a mistake to say that we’ve ignored the gamer or that we don’t have products for the core gamer. I mean, New Super Mario Bros. has every gamer excited. Just the little tidbits that we’ve shown about the new Zelda for Wii has gamers tremendously excited. We’re going to continue to bring great content both to that experienced player as well as the brand new player, and that’s what we do really well.”
The two examples he listed might be enough for some gamers, but definite 2010 releases of games such as Metroid: Other M and Super Mario Galaxy 2 show us that Nintendo still care about their core gamers.
