The GameCube classic remade with updated play controls for the Wii.

Straight from the creative mind of Nintendo's own Shigeru Miyamoto (the creator of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong and more), Pikmin is an inventive action-strategy game featuring incredibly life-like environments inspired by Mr. Miyamoto's own garden in Kyoto, Japan.

Players control a spaceman named Captain Olimar who has crash-landed on an unusual planet. The goal of the game is to help Olimar collect his vessel's lost parts, which have been scattered all over the planet.

Luckily for Captain Olimar, the planet is inhabited by strange little creatures, called Pikmin. Pikmin are plant-like life forms that come in three different colours red, yellow and blue. Each type of Pikmin has unique strengths, which Olimar must use to his advantage. Red Pikmin can withstand fire, blue Pikmin can survive in water, while yellow Pikmin can destroy obstacles by using bomb-rocks. Players can control the Pikmin sprouts individually, in groups, or in one large Pikmin posse of 100 creatures.

Pikmin begin their lives as leaves, but they mature into buds and flowers if you leave them in the ground after sprouting. Accomplishing goals in Pikmin isn't all about hauling items from point A to point B. Pikmin sprouts can also be directed to perform other tasks like building bridges, destroying walls, carrying bombs and -- of course -- fighting.

Directing Pikmin to battle other creatures is one of the most entertaining aspects of the game. The natural enemies are generally many times larger than the Pikmin, so they have to attack in large numbers to be successful.

Pikmin is a very unique type of game, which you have to play for yourself to appreciate. Its fresh approach and imaginative presentation makes it a most refreshing game to play.

Who would pay another $50 for this game simply for new controls? Why would you buy this? It is a remake the only difference is controls

The GameCube didn't really sell that well outside of Japan, so it's aimed at people who didn't play it the first time around.

Only Admin's news appears there.

This game looks pretty cool. So it's exactly the same as the GCN Version with just updated graphics and controls?

What are these things?, Insects!

Either this game is Nintendo's rival to the Viva pinata series then they have quite a competion.

I might rent this and try it out, looks strangly fun.

Dimitri, first off the two games are nothing alike - nothing,
I've played both. Secondly Pikmin was first released on Gamecube in the US in Dec 2001 and Viva Pinata first came out Oct 2007 - on xbox 360 to my knowledge. Pikmin is one of the best, most uniquely innovating games to have hit a gaming platform, ever. So sorry mate, if either game is ripping one off its viva pinata ripping pikmin - but again they are totally different.

This quick and easy re-release from nintendo seems like a grab a cash and leaves hard core pikmin fans like me disappointed. One can only imagine a new wii pikmin release will be on the backburner now. Very disappointed nintendo - I have beaten both these games, know where all the pieces are - a few new controls won't justify a $50 spend.

A new pikmin...bring it on. Imagine online capabilities!
