Its good to see you coming round Doc B ... i mean in all seriousness and honesty id love for the wii to be realy good... then id be happy ... i doubt it will and really i come here to voice genuine concern i dont take time out of my own life to bad mouth a game system to upset people ive never met... but the wii has cracks already and the problem with this is there isnt one rival (Sega) anymore, now nintendo has to be better then two manufacturers. Going cheap hasnt helped and all the dodgy leave outs are making it worse. But like all involved im hoping the wii kicks ass and Zelda TP is the greatest game ever... but they need more. Thats the sort of crap that creaps lazyness into nintendo. so yeah nintendos great and Melstorm is JUST NEGATIVE..... why do i come here and plead my case all the time???? cause i honestly would love nintendo to be great but they are just not doing it! Um, question time... Does anybody know if the gamecube controllers work for classic games? They have more than enough buttons. Or is it that classic games MUST use a D-pad? If so i think that's fairly ridiculous... If they use that as an excuse to make the customers buy the classic controller just because of this then heads are gonna roll...

"oh no, a joystick, this advanced technology is so many lightyears ahead of the D-pad that it would be nigh impossible to incoporate such a feature into the humble classic game" - pfft i say, pfft...

(err... sorry, i usually hate this kind of negativity as it's kind of pointless i know but it's late at night... i know it's still not an excuse but hey, i tried... ;D)

I just turned around, saw my gamecube and it's controllers and holy cow! it's a D-pad on that controller... it's a function so rarely used on the gc other that i plainly forgot about it. hah... haha.... hah... (i'm an idiot i know... but it's late! right? no..? Alright fine, i'm still an idiot)

Well then if the GC controllers don't work for classic games then i'm really gonna spit the dummy haha

Cube controllers do work for Virtual console games, but because the d-pad on the cube controller wasnt meant to be used its too small and awkwardly positioned. Using it is possible but it will greatly reduce your gameplay experience. Negative or realistic its all a matter of opinion.

So its kind of wireless, its not connecting to the console, just another controller. Kind of annoying if u ask me. Having a wiimote on your lap while playing a game

The D pad on the cube and wavebird is hopeless, and now so is the retro controller, for the best performance the wii mote clips onto the back of the retro controller turning an already unconfortable controller into a lead weight.

Download like 1,000 old games onto your computer and let the good times roll! (There are excellent N64 emulators out by now).

I really want one, I tried buying 2 el cheapo cube controllers off eBay (I didn't realise that they weren't original ones) and the trigger buttons are way too stiff. My 'Z' button is real hard to trigger.

Some of the games are compatible, most of the early NES, Master System, Turbo Grafix games, it will state what controller is compatible before you down load the game.
Personally I suggest you grab the classic controller if you plan on getting some VC games as it's the most comfortable controller next to the Game Cube one and it works with some new games like SSBB and Mario Kart.

Aside from my saturn controller which will always be the best for old school retro gaming I must say that the Classis Controller is the best controller on the market for newer gaming consoles. It's a little small but I'm also seven feet tall so everything's small in my hands. It's got the best analog controls and has angles built into the controller like the Nunchuk so you know exactly what angles you're hitting without looking. Ingenious idea I wish more controllers utilized. Makes gaming much more precise.
